Amazing Bible Promises About Healing

Maybe you or a family member have been struggling with an illness or injury that seems like it’ll never go away. Perhaps you’re dealing with depression or anxiety and it feels like nothing helps. Sometimes mental struggles can even be on a spiritual level.

But remember nothing is impossible with God. He wants to bring us healing and hope in all these areas just, like He brought healing for people in the Bible.

Healing is a wholesome renewal process that removes hurt, pain, and weakness. It also restores our joy and gives us a new lease on life.

You may be dealing with illness, injuries, heartache, feeling distant from God, or personal challenges, but God’s word (such as Psalm 107:20) reminds us that He is ready to heal and restore us no matter what we face.

As you seek comfort, take a moment to find encouragement in the promises of healing in the Bible. Consider the many examples of how God has touched lives and brought healing to those in need throughout history.

In this article we’ll look at:

Instances of healing in the Bible

The Bible is full of wonderful experiences of healing, support, and encouragement.

With medical advancements and more insight into healthy living, we’ve made great strides in overcoming various health challenges. However, we still face hurdles in some areas that leave us searching for solutions. That’s why God always invites us to bring them to Him. What seems impossible for us is possible through Him.

For example, when your car breaks down and you take it to the mechanic, you trust someone who understands its inner workings. Similarly, when we are sick, broken, and discouraged, we can trust God, the Master Mechanic, who created us (Genesis 1:26). He has the power and wisdom to repair, restore, and renew us, making us whole again in ways we couldn’t imagine.

We know we can trust God to help us because we have proof of Him assisting people with health problems when they came to Him in the Bible. Let’s look at some of this.

God uplifts a discouraged Elijah (1 Kings 19)

The Prophet Elijah successfully declares God’s sovereignty during times of continuous idolatry and destructive behavior. On Mount Carmel, he sets up an opportunity for his opposition to witness who the true God is. Afterward, however, he fell into depression. It can happen to people even after wonderful circumstances.

Elijah becomes disheartened and discouraged after facing intense opposition from Queen Jezebel, who threatens his life. Feeling isolated and exhausted, he flees into the wilderness, even wishing to die. God, however, shows Ejliah that He is still with him. He gives him a chance to rest, provides food for him, and tells him he is not alone.

Much like Elijah, we can find solace in the truth that no matter our current challenges, God is right by our side, ready to uplift, motivate, and support us.

A man set free from demon possession (Mark 5)

This man was so overwhelmed by demons (fallen angels) that harm and separate us from God. He was possessed by many demons that tormented Him. He was cast off from his people, meaning he had to live among the tombs, in isolation, unable to be restrained by chains or shackles. His life was marked by suffering, violence, and despair.

But when Jesus arrived on the scene, everything changed. With a single command, He cast the demons out of the man, setting him free and restoring him to his right mind.

This story powerfully reminds us that no matter how lost, broken or far we feel from God, He can transform our lives and set us free from devils, sin, and temptations. He is ready to remove any obstacle that keeps us from Him. He wants us to be free from these things.

A woman cured after bleeding for 12 years (Luke 8:40-48, Matthew 9:18-26)

Here we find the touching story of a woman who struggled with a blood disorder for 12 years. After seeing countless doctors and spending all her money, she wasn’t healed, but left feeling desperate and hopeless.

When she heard that Jesus was nearby, she believed a touch of His cloth could heal her. And indeed, when she touched the edge of His cloth, her bleeding stopped immediately and she was healed.

This story shows us how powerful faith is, how loving Christ is, and how He can heal and restore us, no matter how hopeless our situation may seem.

We have seen how the Lord always delights in healing. As in times past, we can find healing if we come to Him today and surrender our afflictions and burdens.

Let’s examine some powerful healing scriptures.

Bible verses on healing

The Bible teaches that God is a healer. His promises of healing are woven throughout scripture, demonstrating His love and power to renew.

When you feel sick, exhausted, and anxious, and cannot keep going, Jesus says, “Come to me” (Matthew 11:28). He promises to give you rest, comfort, and healing for your weary body and spirit.

The following healing scriptures remind us of God’s love and desire for wholeness and His faithfulness to bring healing:

1. Exodus 15:26
“If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

Explanation:
God cares about our health, both physical and spiritual. We can experience His peace and healing just like the Israelites did. We will feel His comfort as we draw close to Him, surrender our problems to Him, and trust His care and leadership.

2. Psalm 30:2
“O Lord my God, I cried out to You,
And You healed me.”

Explanation:
There are times in life when we feel completely overwhelmed by physical illness, emotional struggles, or challenging circumstances. When we feel like no one sees what we’re going through, God sees us, hears us, and answers us. God does not ignore us or leave us to suffer alone. Even if no immediate, physical healing is happening, we can trust God to care for us and give us what we need.

3. Psalm 34:19
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

Explanation:
No matter who we are, what we believe, or what we’ve done, we all experience bad things because we live in a sin-corrupted world. While we encounter many challenges, we are not alone. No matter how tough the journey God never wants us to suffer but He longs to deliver us. He wants to give us fulfilling lives.

He gives us His strength and grace to endure our circumstances. He also promises us that one day we’ll live in a world where we’ll never have to suffer again.

4. Psalm 41:3
“The Lord will strengthen him on his bed of illness;
You will sustain him on his sickbed.”

Explanation:
When sick and bedridden, David reminds us that God’s grace is sufficient (1 Corinthians 12:9). He is ever present to encourage, lift us, and give us the strength to persevere in our situation.

5. Psalms 103:1-3
“Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases.”

Explanation:
We live in a world that suffers from the damaging effects of sin. We try to do right but still suffer from the effects of sin (in the world or the people around us). But the good news is, God can heal our hurts and deal with the source of our pain—the sin in the world and our human natures.

6. Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Explanation:
When we are sick or struggling, fear creeps in as we face the uncertainty of our health. However, we don’t need to be afraid even when things seem too burdensome as we aren’t alone. God’s presence will uplift and strengthen us when we feel weak and hopeless.

7. Isaiah 57:18
“I have seen his ways, and will heal him;
I will also lead him,
And restore comforts to him
And to his mourners.”

Explanation:

Just like Israel, God wants to give everyone peace. Even those who have sinned and hurt Him but the wicked can’t accept the peace He offers because they don’t receive Him—they hold onto their sin and troubles and are overcome by them. However, When we listen to God’s correction, He heals and comforts us.

8. Jeremiah 17:14
“Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed;
Save me, and I shall be saved,
For You are my praise.”

Explanation:
We face moments that leave us longing for healing, restoration, and someone who can save us from our struggles. This Bible verse is a prayer that many of us can relate to when we find ourselves at a crossroads, seeking hope and renewal.

9. Jeremiah 30:17
“For I will restore health to you
And heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord,
Because they called you an outcast saying:
This is Zion;
No one seeks her.”

Explanation:
We may feel forgotten or abandoned as if there’s no hope for healing. In such moments, God offers a comforting promise that He will bring us back to health.

10. Matthew 4:23
“And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.”

Explanation:
While Christ Jesus was here on earth, He never met a case beyond His healing power. You may be forcing impossible challenges, take heart as there is nothing too hard for Jesus.

11. Hebrews 4:15
“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Explanation:
Christ understands all our weaknesses. He is ever patient with us and we can always approach Him with boldness with all our needs.

12. James 5:13-15
“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”

Explanation:
We can come to God for forgiveness and spiritual restoration as well as physical or mental healing. He’s the ultimate source of healing, after all—physical, mental, and spiritual. And we don’t have to wait to call God during office hours! We can come to Him personally, praying for healing anytime, anywhere. Prayer is even more impactful when Christians gather to pray for healing on behalf of the afflicted.

We can also uplift our spirits by praising the Lord and singing Psalms (Psalm 147:1), trusting in His delight for our healing.

We have looked at proof of God’s healing in the Bible and can be encouraged today by looking at God’s promises of healing.

Deuteronomy 7:15 tells us that God wants to take away all our problems.

When we surrender to God, relying on His strength (Philippians 4:13), He promises us fulfilling health.

Healing is something we all long for. The good news is that healing is not just for the fortunate few but is available to all. No matter the depth of our sickness or pain, Jesus the Son of Righteousness (Malachi 4:2), is ever on our side.

He may not heal us immediately or in the way we expect to, but He will help us endure whatever we are facing.

Christ understands our pain. He was hurt and broken for the wrongs we’ve done. He took on the pain and suffering that should have been ours, and by His wounds, we are healed (Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24).

Today He invites all of us to embrace these life-changing promises and incorporate them into our everyday lives by:

  • Claiming healing promises in prayer
  • Studying the subject of healing in the Bible
  • Finding devotions on healing
  • Meeting with fellow believers to pray for health concerns
  • Singing psalms and songs of praise

The beauty of Jesus’ healing is that it has no negative side effects, no bills attached, and no expiration date. As we meditate on these promises, let them remind us of the hope, peace, and healing available.
